Malaysia’s scrap imports jump in July

According to statistics, Malaysia's scrap imports totaled 364,000 tons in July, jumping by 47.3% year on year and rising by 28.1% from a month ago.

Also, the country's scrap imports have increased for consecutive eight months.

In July, the scrap imports from the US totaled 157,000 tons, soaring by 99.2%; those from South Africa were at 90,000 tons, increasing by 42.2%, both compared to the figures in the same month of 2012.

In the January-July period, Malaysia's scrap imports amounted to 1.463 million tons, rising by 22% year on year.

In the given period time, the US was the largest scrap exporter to Malaysia with 552,000 tons, soaring by 21.8%; South Africa was the second largest one with 270,000 tons, increasing by 24.9% and Singapore was the third largest one with 212,000 tons, up by 17.1%, all compared to the figures in the same period of a year ago.
